Swiss Moto3 Rider Jason Dupasquier passes away at 19

Swiss motorcycle rider Jason Dupasquier has died from injuries following a crash in the qualifiers of Moto 3 Italian Grand Prix.

MotoGP issued a statement: “Despite the best efforts of circuit medical staff and all those subsequently attending to the Swiss rider, the hospital has announced that Dupasquier has sadly succumbed to his injuries.”

Dupasquier was involved in an accident with Ayumu Sasaki and Jeremy Alcoba in a multi-rider incident between Turns 9 and 10, with the session red-flagged thereafter.

Dupasquier fell and was then hit by his own motorbike and that of Sasaki. Later in an interview Alcoba said that he thought he had gone over the fallen rider’s legs.

The medical vehicles arrived at the accident site immediately and attended to the Swiss rider on track for 30 minutes before carrying him with a medical helicopter to the Careggi Hospital in Florence.

He underwent a chest surgery overnight “for a vascular lesion” and had suffered “severe brain damage” as mentioned by the hospital spokesman.

But later in a joint statement issued by FIM, the team’s IRTA umbrella association, and the sport’s commercial rights holder DORNA the tragic news was delivered.

“Following a serious incident in the Moto3 Qualifying 2 session at the Gran Premio d’Italia, it is with great sadness that we report the passing of Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier,” it read.
