Neeraj Chopra Bags Gold Medal in Men’s Javelin Throw

Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to bag a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Saturday evening. This also marked as Indian’s first medal in athletics in the history of Olympics.

In his initial throw, Neeraj made it count with a gigantic score of 87.03m and improved in the second attempt by reaching the 87.58m mark. However, Chopra’s third and fourth attempt did not count as per the rules. In the final throw, Neeraj threw 84.24m.  

This is India’s 7th medal at Tokyo 2020 and best medal for India at a single edition of the games. He also became India’s second-ever individual Gold medal winner at Olympics, after Abhinav Bindra at 2008 Summer Olympics.

Neeraj knew that his second attempt was a winning thow, the moment he released the javelin, he put his hands up in joy. This throw stayed unbeaten through the rest of the rounds.

Whole of India lit up with joy and tears of happiness while watching Neeraj Chopra stand on the top position of the podium receiving the gold medal while the arena echoed India National anthem.
