Marvel Confirms Shang-Chi Sequel In The Works

Disney and Marvel Studios have confirmed that a sequel to their hit superhero movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is officially in development with co-writer and director Destin Daniel Cretton returning to direct the movie.

According to the reports from Variety.com, Cretton is simultaneously working on new Marvel Cinematic Universe series for the OTT giant Disney. It also confirmed that he has signed an exclusive multi-year partnership with Disney owned Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx collective.

This will have him develop TV projects for both Marvel as well as Onyx across all of their platform. Cretton will be producing the deal mentioned project under a new company which is he will be launching along with partner Asher Goldstein, named Family Owned.

Shang-Chi And The Legend of The Ten Rings starred Simu Liu as the lead who battled ancient creatures along with paternal issues. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie grossed over $430 million at the worldwide box office making it one of the most successful films of the pandemic.

Talking about the new partnership, the president of Marvel Studious, Kevin Feige said, “Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.”

“We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”

Shang-Chi was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to be led by an Asian actor and had mostly Asian cast.
