Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest person in the world will officially step down from his role as chief executive on July 5, as per his announcement during the company’s annual shareholder meeting Wednesday.
After founding and taking the internet giant to new heights for nearly three decades , Bezos will hand the reins to Andy Jassy, who currently runs Amazon Web Services.
The announcement of leadership change came along with its February earnings report, and also revealed that Jassy would take over during the fiscal third quarter but at the time no particular date was given out.
“I’m very excited to move into the [executive] chair role, where I’ll focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives,” Jeff Bezos said last Wednesday.
Earlier in February, he expressed that he was trying to manage more time on his ventures outside the company. Other ventures mentioned by him might possibly be Bezos Earth Fund and Blue Origin.
Talking about Andy Jassy, “He has the highest of high standards and I guarantee Andy will never let the universe make us typical,” Bezos said. “He has the energy needed to keep alive in us what has made us special.”
When Jassy will move from the top post of AWS to CEO, his vacant post will be filled by Tableau CEO Adam Selipsky, said the company in March.
