House of the Dragon Makes Golden Globe History: HBO’s Prequel Takes Best TV Series

Published on

HBO’s much-anticipated prequel series House of the Dragon took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama at the 2023 ceremony. This is the first time the Game of Thrones franchise has won a series award at the Golden Globes, despite five nominations and four Emmy wins.

The prequel series, based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel, beat out the final seasons of Better Call Saul and Ozark, Netflix’s The Crown (a two-time past winner) and Apple TV+’s Severance for the award. Flanked onstage by stars of the prequel Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, executive producer Miguel Sapochnik (who recently left the series) accepted the award.

The win for House of the Dragon was the fourth for HBO at the 2023 Golden Globes. The White Lotus also took home the award for best limited or anthology series, and Jennifer Coolidge and Euphoria star Zendaya won acting honors.

The success of House of the Dragon is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the cast and crew. The series has pushed the boundaries of technology and storytelling, creating a visually stunning world that captures the essence of George R. R. Martin’s novels. With a win at the Golden Globe awards, it is clear that their efforts have been rewarded.
