Bollywood star Akshay Kumar shared on his social media platforms on Sunday morning that he has tested positive for coronavirus.
Akshay Kumar had been shooting for his upcoming film Ram Setu along with Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrat Bharucha.
The statement shared by him revealed that he had caught the virus. “I wish to inform everyone that, earlier this morning, I have tested positive for COVID-19. Following all the protocols, I have immediately isolated myself.”
“I am under home quarantine and have sought necessary medical care. I would sincerely request all those that have come in contact with me to get themselves tested and take care. Back in action very soon!” he added.
Next day on Monday moring he annnouned on social media that he has been hospitalised as a “precautionary measure.”
Some 45 crew members working on Ram Setu have also tested positive for COVID-19, reports news agency PTI. B N Tiwari, President, Federation of Western India Cine Employees, told PTI: “They all have been quarantined after testing positive. Out of those, 40 were junior artists while the rest were Akshay’s make-up team, their assistants. Now the shooting has been halted indefinitely.”
The coronavirus situation in India has peaked as the second wave has shown more infections than ever. On Sunday, fresh COVID-19 infections crossed a lakh for the first time, the highest daily spike in new cases so far. Maharashtra has been the worst-hit state by far and hence the CM Uddhav Thackeray announced a weekend lockdown in addition to a night curfew and other restrictions.
