“What is Covid-19” is the top trending Google searches for India this year. The search escalated exponentially when deadly ‘Covid19’ virus took the world by storm, leaving people quarantined in their houses for months. Covid19 pandemic had a terrible impact on the lives of people, social distancing was followed, friend and families switched to video calls instead of meeting and employees adapted to working from home. Coronavirus got the most of us this 2020.

Every Indian must be familiar with this name “Binod” now. “What/ Who is Binod” was the most popular googled search trend in 2020. The trend spiked up when the Indian YouTube channel, Slayy Point uploaded a video “Why Indian Comments Section is Garbage (BINOD)” exploring their comments section. In all the comments they reviewed, a unique comment by user Binod Tharu, who just wrote his name “Binod” under the videos, set the Internet on fire. They joked about how the word can be a word for every situation, and in no time, “Binod” became the hottest trend in India this year.
What is Nepotism?
When we hear about nepotism, one of the worst events of 2020 crosses our mind. “What is Nepotism” became the most searched phrase on Google after the shocking suicide news of talented actor Bollywood gem “Sushant Singh Rajput”. This heartbreaking news came as a shock, our whole nation mourned the death of SSR.
People started raising their voices openly, dragged many popular celebrities in scrutiny for promoting nepotism in Bollywood, which caused the death of ‘Sushant Singh Rajput. Soon after, social media flooded with the debate on nepotism and “What is Nepotism” came out as the most searched term on Google this 2020.
What is CAA?
“What is CAA” is also one of the most googled searches in 2020 as the protests broke out across India, against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019. The Act seeks to amend the definition of an illegal immigrant for Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who have lived in India without documentation. A wide range of people attended protests against CAA. “What is CAA” was soon listed among the most searched term on Google in 2020.
