The popular Korean show Squid Game has become a chartbuster on Netflix. Recently, the Head of content at Netflix Sarandos said that the show is one its way to be the No. 1 in the world, being the biggest non-English language show in the world.
The show garnered praises from all over the world but Pakistan. One of the most loved character from the series was Ali Abdul who was played by the Indian actor Anupam Tripathi.
He is portrayed as an undocumented Pakistani migrant worker in South Korea. The actor was loved by the viewers for being gentle, kind and loyal. Even Pakistani viewers loved his character but were tired of filmmakers hiring Indians to play their roles.
Many netizens took to social media to make their voices heard to the filmmakers. one of the user admitted the show is good but wrote: “it’s so frustrating to see Pakistani characters in big TV series being played by Indian actors. Why can’t these productions cast original Pakistani actors for such roles?”
One user also pointed out the same thing happening in another popular series Money Heist. The role of a Pakistani hacker called Shakir was played by Indian actor Ajay Jethi.
Here are some of the reactions of the netizens shared on Twitter.
