Russian President Vladmir Putin announced on Tueday that Russian has successfully registered coronavirus vaccine after the approval given by health ministry.
Sharing the success of much needed vaccine in a government meeting, Putin thanked everyone who worked on the development of the first vaccine against coronavirus.
Mr Putin said the vaccine had passed all the required checks, adding that his daughter had already been given it. Officials have said they plan to start mass vaccination in October.
Russian President said, ” I hope we will be able to start mass production of this medication in the near future, which is very important. ” He further called it as “a very important step for the world”.
Experts have raised concerns about the speed of development of vaccine, suggesting that researchers might be cutting corners.
WHO urged Russia last week to follow international guidelines. On Tuesday, the WHO said it had been in talks with Russian authorities about undertaking a review of the vaccine, which has been named Sputnik-V.
Currently, Russian vaccine isn’t on WHO’s list that have reached phase three clinical trials. More than 100 vaccines are under development around the world.
Despite all the rapid progress, experts think any vaccine would not be available before mid-2021.
