Lil Wayne and Kodak Black have been pardoned by President Donald Trump. The rappers were included in the final wave of pardons and commutations Trump granted on Tuesday, his last full day in office, according to a statement released by the White House.
Hours before Joe Biden is set to be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States, Donald Trump granted clemency to 143 people early Wednesday morning, including rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black.
Lil Wayne
Both the rappers were found guilty and were pressed charges against them. According to CBD News, Wayne pleaded guilty last month to illegally carrying a loaded handgun while traveling to Florida on a private plane in December 2019. He was set to face prison time up to 10 years at a hearing in Miami on 28th January.
Lil Wayne shared a picture of him with President during his 2020 presidential campaign, appeared to support him. He was being pardoned of his charges by referring to him as ‘trustworthy, kind-hearted and generous.’ “Mr. Carter has exhibited this generosity through commitment to a variety of charities, including donations to research hospitals and a host of foodbanks,” read the White House’s official statement.
Kodak Black
Bill K Kapri popularly known as Kodak Black was sentenced to almost four years in jail in 2019 for making a false and fictitious written statement in order to “unlawfully acquire firearms.”
Black’s sentence was also pardoned as the White House praised his philanthropic work. “Black is a prominent artist and community leader,” officials noted. “He has committed to supporting a variety of charitable efforts, such as providing educational resources to students and families of fallen law enforcement officers and the underprivileged,” they said.
He has also “paid for the notebooks of school children, provided funding and supplies to day care centers, provided food for the hungry, and annually provides for underprivileged children during Christmas”. And while behind bars, he gave $50,000 (£41,000) to Covid-hit small businesses in his Florida home town.
