The newly announced Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has already surrounded himself in controversy after his earlier racist tweet was surfaced on the internet.
The founder of the micro-blogging website Twitter, Jack Dorsey stepped down from the position of CEO and passed the baton to Twitter’s previous CTO Parag Agrawal.
However, the transition of the CEO’s does not look smooth. Agrawal is being trolled over one of his old tweets which were considered racist by the internet users.
The tweet which started the controversy was posted by Agrawal back in 2010 when he was not even working with Twitter as an employee. The tweet quoted comedian mocking racism and Islamophobia in America without mentioning his name.
“If they are not gonna make a distinction between Muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists,” the tweet posted on the 26th of October read.
Picking up on this netizens called Parag Agrawal out for being outright racist, by generalizing all the white males as racist in his tweet. Parag immediately took to Twitter to clarify the situation.
He stated that at the time he was quoting comedian Aasif Mandvi from The Daily Show. “I am amused by people that pass judgement on people for passing judgement. I was attempting to do the same to amuse myself,” he had written in a follow-up tweet.
