The president of UFC Dana White confirmed on Twitter that Khabib Nurmagomedov is officially retired from the sport and will not enter the Octagon again.
White acknowledged the arguably greatest lightweight fighter has officially retired with an undefeated status. The tweet read, “29-0 it is,” while posting a photo alongside Nurmagomedov. “He is 100 percent officially retired. It was incredible to watch you work, Khabib. Thank you for EVERYTHING and enjoy whatever is next my friend.”
Khabib called his retirement on his MMA career after a second-round submission win over Justin Gaethje on Saturday. He left his gloves in the center of the octagon to fulfill a promise to his mother.
This came as a surprise to everyone but the he left the ring as promised to his mother after the death of his father due to COVID-19 complications in June.

The UFC president has been pulling strings over past few months to lure Khabib to make an epic comeback in the ring. White stated numerous times that if something came along that really interested Nurmagomedov, or felt like a true challenge, he might reconsider his decision.
Also, earlier this week Khabib posted a photo alongside former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta with a caption“send location,” which led to speculation that perhaps he really was considering a comeback. Instead this turned out to be just a meeting to confirm his retirement.
