Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov is a now-retired Russian professional mixed martial artist. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts history. He was feared by all of his opponents. Khabib had a legendary undefeated streak of 29 wins and no losses.
Khabib called his retirement on his MMA career after a second-round submission win over Justin Gaethje on Saturday. He left his gloves in the center of the octagon to fulfill a promise to his mother.
In his last match, he was putting constant pressure on his opponent by sheer aggression and finally locked him in a triangle choke which left Gaethje unconscious. This made his record to 29 wins and no defeats.
Khabib was brought into fighting by his father form an early age. He stood with him at each and every moment. Recently, his father died of COVID-19 complications in June. In the octagon ring, Khabib shared some emotional words.
“I talked to my mother three days (ago). She didn’t want me to go fight without (my) father, but I promised her it’s going to be my last fight, and if I give my word, I have to follow this.”
“It was my last fight. I know only one thing I want from the UFC – you guys have to put me number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, because I deserve this.”
Also Conor McGregor congratulated his biggest rival and paid respect to his father.
