Popular rapper Kanye West had filed court documents to formally change his name to Ye back in August. After two months West finally got what he asked for, and will be legally known as “Ye.”
The 44 year old rapper wanted to use Ye with no other first name or surname and cited the changes for “personal reasons”. However at the time a judge had to give a nod to the filing.
Now Judge Michelle Williams has granted the desired change on Monday in the California courthouse. The documents obtained by TMZ confirmed that the name change has been officially approved.
Kanye expressed his desire of changing his name to Ye on social media back in 2018. He wrote on Twitter that he was “the being formally [sic] known as Kanye West. I am Ye”.
Explaining his reason for changing name, he said on radio interview that year, “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.” He said his name “went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything.” Ye was the title of the studio album he released that year.
While Knaye changed all of his social handle with Ye, websites were still using his full name but after this approval from the court he has to be addressed as Ye.
