Recently, the major Twitter accounts of the US celebrities were hacked and tweeted about giving money to people. Twitter described it as “a coordinated social engineering attack.” This attcack included accounts of ex-US President Barack Obama, Tesla’s Elon Musk, investor Warren Buffet and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
The tweets instructed people to send bitcoin to the given link and they would receive its double amount back. The tweet also said that the offer was valid only for 30 minutes which caused a lot of people being scammed. The tweet also included a link of a bitcoin wallet address link.
Twitter officials termed it to be a coordinated massive cyber-attack. Several accounts of cryptocurrency-focused organizations were also hijacked. Altogether, the affected accounts had tens of millions of users.
Florida teen identified behind the attack
While lot of people speculated it to be the work of professionals, it turns out the “mastermind” of one of the most high-profile hacks in recent years was a 17-year-old recent high school graduate from Florida, the authorities said on Friday.
Graham Ivan Clark was the name of the teenage boy, who lived in Tampa apartment by himself, was arrestd early Friday, said stated officials. He has been charged 30 felony charges as an adult.
Along with him, two other people were involved too. Mason John Sheppard, 19, of the United Kingdom, and Nima Fazeli, 22, of Orlando, were accused of helping Clark.
