The world’s richest man, Elon Musk has said that he is willing to sell his Tesla stock holdings and spend $6 billion to end world hunger. This seems to be a happy news for the world but it comes with a little catch from the tech mogul.
United Nations World Food Program (WFP) director David Beasley told CNN that a flat one-time payment of just 2 per cent wealth of Musk can solve the global hunger problem. This came just after Musk’s net worth increased by $36 billion when the stock price surged to new of Hertz ordered 100,000 Tesla.
As reported by Bloomberg, Beasley had specifically called the billionaires for action like Musk and Jeff Bezos. “Just $6 billion could keep 42 million people from dying,” said Beasley.
Responding to the same, Elon posted a tweet asking ‘exactly how’ $6 billion will be utilized to help solve world hunger. He further said that if the UN provides him the perfect plan to solve global hunger then he will immediately sell Tesla stock and fund the $6 billion.
Musk continued with another tweet, “But it must be open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent.”
After being questioned by Elon Musk, David Beasley cleared that the published article by the CNN was not accurate. He said that $6 billion will not solve world hunger but “will prevent geopolitical instability, mass migration and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation.”
He hit back at Elon asking for a meet to discuss in other tweet. “Let’s talk: It isn’t as complicated as Falcon Heavy, but too much at stake to not at least have a conversation. I can be on the next flight to you. Throw me out if you don’t like what you hear!”
Musk immediately responded asking to “publish your current & proposed spending in detail so people can see exactly where money goes.”
