As the demand and trend for NFTs is rising, it has set new records and changed life of digital artist who had ever sold a print for was $100. Mike Winkelmann, popularly known as Beeple has in past created concert visuals for the likes of Justin Bieber, One Direction and Katy Perry.
He recently became one among top three most valuable living artists after selling his NFT for $69 million. The artwork was sold in an auction at at Christie’s becoming the first-ever sale by a major auction house of a piece of art that does not exist in physical form.
The art was named as “Everydays – The First 5000 Days”. It is a collage of 5,000 individual images, which were made one-per-day for more than thirteen years.
When the artist came to know about the bid placed for his artwork at the auction he was speechless and thanked the technology as to “Without the NFTs, there just legitimately was no way to collect digital art.”
“I do really think that this is going to be seen as the next chapter of art history,” Beeple said.
In October, Winkelmann sold his first series of NFTs, with a pair going for $66,666.66 each. In December, he sold a series of works for $3.5 million total. And last month, one of the NFTs that originally sold for $66,666.66 was resold for $6.6 million.
NFTs or Non Fungible Tokens are becoming a new type of art or an digital asset. It is authenticated by blockchain, which certifies its originality and ownership.
