YouTube star David Dobrik is on the verge of getting cancelled after a woman accused a former Vlog Squad member of rape earlier this week. The woman said that the crew supplied them alcohol and sexually harassed and raped her while being intoxicated.
After the news broke out, David Dobrik released an apology video on 16th March tiltled as “Let’s Talk” “I wanted to come on here real quick and address some conversations that are going on on the Internet,” Dobrik said in the video, which runs two minutes. He said “consent is something that’s super, super important to me” and he “always” gets permission from the people how are in his videos. If someone requests the video to be taken down, he will, he said. Dobrik also added that some of his older videos “don’t represent me anymore, and they’re hurtful to other people, and I don’t want them up because I’ve grown as a content creator and as a person,” adding, “I don’t agree with some of the videos I’ve posted.”
But now the star has released a second apology video, addressing the ongoing sexual abuse allegations on Vlog Squad and also apologizing for his “cowardly” response in his earlier video.
This seven minutes long video talks about the allegations on star Dominykas Zeglaitis titled as ‘03/22/21.’ “I fully believe the woman that came out against Dom and said she was sexually assaulted by him,” he said. “I got consent to post the video, but even though I got consent, I should have never posted it. What I understand now… is she sent that text because she felt like she had to, and that’s f**ked up.
“It was cowardly of me to say in my last apology I ‘missed the mark because it’s fucking gross and I’m sorry.” He also revealed that he would be taking a short break from social media as it does not feel right to post videos after what had happened.
He also added that going dark will also be a bad idea “because I love what I do. But I feel like it’s important to show that change is possible and I’m learning. Maybe even forgiveness is possible,” he said.
“I’m sorry that I took Dom’s word for what happened in those certain situations and I didn’t believe you,” he said.
“Not only did I not believe you, but I made a joke about what kind of a person Dom was because I couldn’t wrap my head around a childhood friend of mine actually doing this to people. Not only didn’t I discredit you Ali, but I plat formed Dom, and I plat formed sexual assault in a negative way where I made jokes about it and I reinforced that kind of behaviour.”
“I really let you down, and a lot of people down. I didn’t go back to any of these women and apologize. I kind of moved on and I learned from it, but I didn’t address the situation.”
“I didn’t reach out to any of these people, and it breaks my heart knowing that I was doing all this stuff while there were people still really hurt by what I made.”
