David Dobrik is a huge YouTube personality. He established his huge fanbase initially through Vine. Later he started creating vlogs on his YouTube channel. His channel was the fifth-most viewed creator channel on YouTube in 2019, with 2.4 billion views that year. He currently has 18.4 million subscribers on YouTube.
Recently, we have seen David Dobrik turning towards entrepreneurial ventures. He has now introduced his own perfumes and also seen to be listed for his restaurant, pizzas and clothing trademark.
His camera app, Dispo today announced a $4 million seed round led by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian through his brand-new venture firm, Seven Seven Six. This marks Dispo’s first ever investment.
As revealed the funding will enable the app, previously known as David’s Disposable, to expand its scope through the creation of a social network whose mission is to restore joy and authenticity to the space.
The rebranding version is also in works, which will include a new look and feel, along with a number of new features which mimics the experience of taking and developing photos on a disposable camera. One new feature, per the Journal, will enable groups of users to pool their photos together for shared viewing experiences.
“I always say that when I invest in a company, that I’m investing in a founder and an idea, and Dispo is no exception. Many people know David Dobrik as the internet’s best friend – he is fun personified, with an unmatched magnetism that draws people in. However, what people might not realize just yet, is that David is a motivated visionary who has a plan to reinstall authenticity into social media and create a safe and fun internet for all. I’m thrilled to work alongside David, Natalie, Daniel and the rest of the Dispo team in pursuit of this shared goal. We couldn’t have invented a better first investment for Seven Seven Six,” said Alexis Ohanian.
