Popular American rapper DaBaby apologized for making anti-gay comments which ultimately led to three music festivals cancelling his appearance and facing major backlash on the internet on Monday.
The backlash was an aftermath of DaBaby making inappropriate remarks about people living with HIV and AIDS at a Miami concert last month. In his statement the anti-gay comments revealed that he was misinformed on the topic of HIV/AIDS.
“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two, three weeks, put your cell phone light up,” DaBaby called at the concert crowd.
Further he also said, “Fellas, if you ain’t suck a n*gga dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up. Keep it fucking real.”
Later he went on to post on his Instagram stories, “My gay fans, they take care of themselves. They ain’t got no nasty gay n*ggas, see what I’m saying? They ain’t no junkies on the street.”
Ultimately, the rapper received a major backlash on internet due to his homophobic comments. Eventually he was dropped at two major music festivals – Lollapalooza and Governor’s Ball.
Post the backlash and appearance cancellation, rapper DaBaby took to Twitter to apologize. He wrote, “I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made.”
“Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”
