Popular football star Cristiano Ronaldo set the world record for most international goals on Wednesday. The record was previously held by Iran’s Ali Daei with a total of 109 goals in international football.
The Portuguese striker reached this mark during his national team’s World Cup Group A qualifying match against Ireland. This moment was anticipated by his fans since the commencement of the tournament by looking at the statistics.
The goal came in the 9th minute when the Portuguese striker struck it into the net to level the scores 1-1 in the match. Going six minutes into the stoppage time, star striker added another goal to his name which took his tally to 111 goals in 180 international games.
“I’m very happy, not only because I beat the record but for the special moments that we had,” Ronaldo said. “Two goals at the end of the game is so tough, but I have to appreciate what the team did. We believed until the end.”
The Portuguese striker was recently transferred to Manchester United after playing for Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo earlier played with Real Madrid for years which earned him his loyal fanbase.
