After a full day of receiving severe backlash on all the social platforms for its new advertisement featuring a Hindu-Muslim marriage, Tata Group’s Tanishq Jewellery has pulled down the controversial advertisement from its YouTube page.
Renowned jewellery brand Tanishq made a creative advertisement about their latest collection titled ‘Ekatvam’ (Oneness). But unfortunately, the ad caused a stir online after netizens felt that the brand’s ad featuring an interfaith baby shower, released last week, was promoting ‘love jihad’.
Many users started trending #BoycottTanishq as they were hurt from the advertisement. While some people also encouraged the advertisement and felt that this was a secular idea. Many celebrities also supported the ad.
In an official statement, the Tanishq spokesperson said, “We are deeply saddened with the inadvertent stirring of emotions and withdraw this film keeping in mind the hurt sentiments and well-being of our employees, partners and store staff.”
The company made the YouTube link to the video private Monday evening, making it unavailable to people. By Tuesday morning, the advertisement was no longer visible on its YouTube page. Also, the advertisement was taken down from Facebook as well.
