Zendaya has won her first Golden Globe Award for her performance in HBO’s Euphoria, cementing her status as a major star in Hollywood. The 26-year-old actress and singer was honored for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for her work in the hit show, beating out Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Laura Linney (Ozark), Imelda Staunton (The Crown), and Hilary Swank (Alaska Daily).
Though the show has been on the air since 2019, this marks the first Golden Globe nomination and victory for Zendaya. However, due to professional obligations, she was unable to attend the event on Tuesday at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Presenter Jay Ellis accepted the award on Zendaya’s behalf, saying: “Zendaya couldn’t be with us tonight, so we are going to accept this award on her behalf,” adding, “She’s busy, she’s working y’all. It’s a good thing.”
But shortly after winning, the actress wrote a lengthy Instagram post thanking everyone and expressing her gratitude. She opened her caption with, “I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to be there tonight, but I just wanted to say thank you to @goldenglobes for this incredible honor. To my fellow nominees, it is a privilege to be named beside you, I admire you all deeply. Thank you to my Euphoria family, without you, none of this is possible.”
The win is a testament to Zendaya’s talent and hard work. Her success in Euphoria has given her the opportunity to show the world her range as an actress, and this Golden Globe win is a well-deserved recognition of her talent.
