Tech giant Google is planning to shift its free YouTuber Music offering into an audio-only experience. The new change will allow users to experience allow background listening for unpaid users, however it will limit video playback to Premium subscribers.
The newly announced changes are scheduled for 3rd November and will be rolling out initially in Canada according to the reports of 9to5Google. As of now there are no details about the new update rolling out to other regions.
Prior to the changes, unpaid YouTube Music users do not have the facility to listen to music in the background or when the device is locked. This limits some users experience in the app, especially when listening the game on the go.
The upcoming changes to will change this things, allowing background listening but removing the ability to watch videos in the app for unpaid users.
According to Community Manager at Google the features for unpaid users are explained as follows:
- Listen to music in the background.
- Shuffle play personalized mixes.
- Find the perfect mood mixes for activities like workouts, commutes, and more.
- Explore millions of songs and thousands of playlists for free.
