Social platform Instagram announces Affiliate Program

Published on

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed several updates regarding monetization options for creators on Instagram during their three-day Creator Week virtual event Tuesday.

He said during the opening session, “I think that any good vision of the future has to involve a lot more people being able to make a living by expressing their creativity and by doing things they want to do, rather than things they have to—and having the tools and the economy around them to support their work is critical.”

These new monetization options include a new affiliate marketing program, which will help creators to earn money from product promotions, and new additions to its Stars creator donations process.

The social media giant announced that it’ll begin testing a new ‘native affiliate tool’, which will allow creators to discover new products available for purchase via Instagram Checkout. Then the products could be shared with their followers and earn commissions for any subsequent purchases that they drive.

As described above, this new feature is basically an influencer marketing process without the creator having to go through the hassle of any negotiations or paperwork for the incentive deal in place.

Instagram said that it will test the option with some eligible creators and businesses based in the U.S. The program will be expanded to more partners and regions in future. Also the creators will be allowed to partner with one of Instagram’s merchandise partners (Bravado/UMG, Fanjoy, Represent and Spring).
