Content creator Dream is one of the most popular people in the Minecraft community with his sudden rise in fame last year. But after a long controversy Dream has admitted to accidental cheating in a 1.16 run.
In October last year, Dream submitted his speedrun which stood as one of the fastest at the time to Speedrun.com. But after an investigation into the situation that lasted roughly two months, Speedrun.com announced it had rejected a fifth-place run from popular Minecraft speedrunner and content creator Dream.
Dream initially argued against the decision but later accepted the result on December 31, as the controversy was getting toxic for the people involved in it. But now, nearly five months after the acceptance, Dream shared the full story behind the incident.
In the statement shared, the content creator admitted to using a disallowed modification (mod) for the run but mentioned that he was not aware of it then.
“As much as I was confident that I didn’t cheat, I had never explored the option that I possibly did,” Dream said. “Due to the way I reacted to the mods and perceived everything going on I was convinced that they were out to get me. I tunnel visioned and was paranoid and didn’t think straight. I had plenty of valid reasons to believe that they weren’t impartial, and had the mod team and I been completely friendly from the beginning I believe it never would have gotten to the point that it did.”
“When I realized this, I felt an extreme sense of guilt and I took down my response video not believing in what I said in the video at all anymore,” Dream said. “This was a couple months ago at this point I believe. When the drama first started I cared more about defending myself and being right, then about figuring out what was actually going on and I shot myself in the foot by doing it.”
